The zero point is arbitrary.

Common examples of interval scales include the Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature scales, IQ scores, and calendar years. For instance, the year 0 is a human-defined point and doesn't represent the absence of time. Operations like addition and subtraction are valid on interval scales, allowing for calculations of means and differences. However, multiplication and division are generally not appropriate because of the lack of a true zero. Statistical analyses that assume interval or ratio data, such as t-tests and ANOVAs, can be applied to interval scales, but interpretations of ratios should be made with caution. Understanding the properties of interval scales is crucial for accurate data analysis and interpretation in various fields.
