These cross-links increase the strength, elasticity, and durability of the rubber.

The most common vulcanizing agent is sulfur. However, other agents can also be used, including selenium, tellurium, and organic peroxides. The choice of vulcanizing agent depends on the specific type of rubber and the desired properties of the final product.
