volatileiksi

Volatileiksi is a Finnish term used mainly in scientific and technical Finnish to denote the process of becoming volatile, or the state of having been made volatile. It is formed from the English word volatile, adapted into Finnish spelling and grammar with the translative suffix -ksi, which expresses change of state or role. In practice, volatileksi appears in technical writing and translated texts to describe steps that convert a substance into a volatile form, for example by heating, pressure reduction, or chemical reaction.

Volatility refers to the tendency of a substance to vaporize; volatile substances have relatively high vapor pressures at a given temperature. The act of turning a compound into a volatile form—volatilization or volatilization—affects separation techniques such as distillation, evaporation, and solvent recovery, and is a key factor in environmental fate models for pesticides, solvents, and industrial chemicals. In Finnish, the process is often described with verbs like haihtua (to evaporate) or volatilisoida, but volatileksi can appear in contexts where English terminology is carried over or in bilingual manuals.
