The vivoHämostasesystem refers to the complex biological process occurring within a living organism that prevents and stops bleeding. This intricate system is crucial for maintaining vascular integrity and is initiated when a blood vessel is injured. The primary components of the vivoHämostasesystem include blood vessels, platelets, and coagulation factors, which are a series of proteins circulating in the blood.

Upon injury to a blood vessel, the immediate response involves vasoconstriction, a narrowing of the vessel to reduce blood flow. Simultaneously, platelets, small anucleated cell fragments, adhere to the site of injury and aggregate, forming a temporary platelet plug. This process is facilitated by von Willebrand factor, which bridges the gap between the damaged vessel wall and the platelets.

Following the formation of the platelet plug, the coagulation cascade is activated. This is a chain reaction involving various coagulation factors that ultimately leads to the formation of fibrin. Fibrin is a protein that forms a mesh-like network, reinforcing the platelet plug and creating a stable blood clot. This clot effectively seals the injured vessel and prevents further blood loss.

Once the damaged vessel has been repaired, the vivoHämostasesystem also includes mechanisms for clot dissolution, a process called fibrinolysis. This ensures that the clot is eventually removed once its function is no longer needed, preventing unnecessary obstruction of blood flow.
