Virtualizace, or virtualization in English, is a technology that allows for the creation of virtual versions of computing resources, such as hardware platforms, operating systems, storage devices, or network resources. This means that a single physical machine can be divided into multiple virtual machines, each running its own operating system and applications independently. The core component enabling this is a hypervisor, a software layer that manages and allocates the physical resources to these virtual environments.

There are two main types of hypervisors. Type 1, also known as bare-metal, runs directly on the host's hardware, while Type 2, or hosted, runs on top of a conventional operating system. Virtualization offers numerous benefits, including increased server utilization, improved disaster recovery capabilities, simplified testing and development environments, and reduced hardware costs. It also enables greater flexibility and scalability for IT infrastructure, allowing businesses to adapt more easily to changing demands. This technology has become a cornerstone of modern cloud computing.
