A vinkelmåler, also known as a protractor, is a tool used for measuring angles. It typically consists of a flat, semicircular or circular disc marked with degrees from 0 to 180 or 0 to 360. The center of the protractor, often indicated by a small hole or a crosshair, is placed at the vertex of the angle to be measured. One arm of the angle is then aligned with the 0-degree line on the protractor. The measurement is read from the scale where the other arm of the angle intersects.

Vinkelmålers come in various materials, including plastic, metal, and wood. Plastic protractors are common for educational purposes due to their affordability and durability. Metal protractors, often made of brass or steel, offer greater precision and are preferred in technical fields. Circular protractors are used when a full 360-degree measurement is required, such as in engineering or navigation. Digital vinkelmålers are also available, providing highly accurate readings displayed electronically.

Beyond simple measurement, vinkelmålers can also be used for drawing angles. By aligning the base with a line and locating the desired degree mark, a new line can be drawn from the vertex to create the specified angle. This dual functionality makes the vinkelmåler an essential tool in geometry, drafting, carpentry, and various other technical disciplines where precise angle manipulation is crucial.
