The word combines vind (wind) and tæt (tight or sealed), and it is used across consumer products, architecture, and technical discussions about building envelopes and textiles.

In clothing and textiles, vindtæt materials are designed to reduce drafts and the chilling effect of wind. Vindtætte fabrics, membranes, and seam constructions help keep the wearer warmer in exposed conditions.
