vetovoimat

Vetovoimat is Finnish for forces that pull objects toward each other. The term is used in physics to describe attraction between bodies, and in a broader sense also to refer to attractions in social, economic, or geographic contexts.

In physics, vetovoima commonly refers to gravitational attraction between masses. The gravitational force is proportional to the product of the masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. For two point masses, F = G m1 m2 / r^2, directed along the line joining the centers of mass. While gravitaatiovoima is the more precise term, vetovoima is often used in general discourse.

The concept also encompasses other attractive interactions, such as magnetic and electric forces, where magnets or charges exert pulling effects on certain materials or fields. In astronomy, gravitating bodies such as planets and moons exert vetovoimaa that governs orbits and tides.

In social sciences and everyday language, vetovoima is used figuratively to describe how attractive a city, institution, brand, or event is to people, investors, or tourists—the “pull” that draws activities and flows to a place.
