verkefnir
Verkefnir is a term from Norse mythology, referring to the tasks or works that the gods and giants had to complete as part of their punishment or trial. The term is often associated with the god Odin, who was bound to a tree, Yggdrasil, and forced to endure various hardships as part of his punishment for the death of Baldr. These tasks included drinking from the well of wisdom, Mímisbrunnr, which caused him to forget his previous knowledge, and being chased by a wolf, Fenrir, which resulted in Odin losing an eye. The term "verkefnir" is also used more broadly to refer to any difficult or arduous task or trial that one must endure. In modern usage, the term may be used metaphorically to describe any challenging or demanding work or endeavor.
