Ventillåser, also known as valve locks or valve keepers, are small components used in internal combustion engines to retain the valve spring assembly. They are crucial for the proper functioning of the engine's valvetrain. Typically, a set of two ventillåser works together to secure a valve spring retainer to the top of the valve stem.

The design of ventillåser varies, but they commonly feature a tapered or conical shape. This shape allows them to be pressed into a corresponding groove or recess in the valve spring retainer. When installed, the ventillåser expand slightly, creating a tight friction fit that prevents the retainer from dislodging. This, in turn, keeps the valve spring compressed and the valve seated correctly.

Materials used for ventillåser include hardened steel alloys to withstand the high stresses and temperatures encountered within an engine. Their precise manufacturing is essential to ensure they hold the valve spring securely and do not fail. Malfunctioning or missing ventillåser can lead to catastrophic engine damage as the valve spring would lose its tension, allowing the valve to fall into the cylinder.
