A varuvahetuslüliti, also known as an automatic transfer switch (ATS) in English, is a critical electrical device used in power systems to automatically switch between a primary power source and a secondary or backup power source. The primary power source is typically the main utility grid, while the secondary source is often a generator, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), or an alternative grid connection.

The primary function of a varuvahetuslüliti is to detect when the primary power source fails or deviates from acceptable voltage or frequency parameters. Upon detecting such an anomaly, the switch quickly disconnects the load from the primary source and connects it to the secondary source. This process is designed to be seamless, minimizing or preventing any interruption in power delivery to connected equipment.
