Varelsar is a small municipality located in the northern province of Eldoria, near the banks of the Sapphire River. The village sits at an elevation of 420 meters above sea level and is surrounded by dense pine forests and rolling hills. The origins of Varelsar can be traced back to the early 12th century, when a group of settlers established the first wooden cottages along the riverbank. Key to the town’s development was the construction of a stone bridge in 1385, which facilitated trade with neighboring towns. In the late 18th century, a series of floods prompted the relocation of the village center to higher ground. Today, Varelsar’s heritage sites include the 14th‑century St. Ingrail Church and the remnants of the original town walls.

With a population of approximately 1,120 residents as of the 2021 census, the municipality is predominantly agrarian, relying on crop cultivation and livestock rearing. Forestry also plays a significant role in the local economy, with timber processing facilities operating in the surrounding hills. In recent years, small-scale tourism has begun to emerge, drawn by Varelsar’s scenic river walks and traditional festivals.

Varelsar’s culture is expressed through its annual Harvest Festival, a celebration of local produce and craftmanship, and the Twin Moon Festival, a midsummer night event featuring lantern processions. The village is also known for its wooden lace weaving, a craft handed down through generations. The community is governed by a mayor-council system, and local services are provided in cooperation with the regional administrative center of Northport.
