Vaimē is a term derived from the Fijian language, referring to a traditional Fijian canoe. These vessels played a crucial role in Fijian society for centuries, serving as primary means of transportation, fishing, and warfare. Vaimē were typically constructed from timber, with their designs evolving over time to suit various purposes and environmental conditions.

The construction of a vaimē involved skilled craftsmanship, with artisans employing traditional techniques passed down through generations. The hull was usually carved from a single large log, with outriggers sometimes added for stability, particularly for larger or open-ocean voyaging canoes.
