Vaatlemiskoht is a small natural area situated in the municipality of Kuopio in Finland's North Savo region. Covering roughly 1.2 square kilometres, the site is characterised by a mixture of rocky outcrops, dense coniferous forest and a shallow lake that bears the same name. The elevation ranges from 100 to 140 metres above sea level, and the terrain is typical of the Finnish Lakeland, featuring gently rolling hills and numerous wetlands.

The name Vaatlemiskoht derives from the Old Finnish verbs *vaatella*, meaning “to observe” or “to keep watch”, and *kohde*, meaning “place”. Local folklore holds that the area was traditionally used as a lookout point by hunters and reindeer herders, a practice that continues in popular hiking routes that traverse the site today.

Ecologically, Vaatlemiskoht is home to a diverse range of flora, including Scots pine, Norway spruce and various moss species. Fauna includes typical northern mammals such as grey squirrels, lynx, and numerous bird species such as the capercaillie during breeding season. Conservation measures have been implemented to protect the wetland habitats from overuse.

Visitor facilities are minimal; a small trail network marked by cairns leads to viewpoints overlooking the lake, and a modest informational board provides basic ecological information. The area is accessible year-round, with walking and cross-country skiing being the most common recreational activities. Local guides occasionally offer guided tours to explain the area's natural and cultural significance.
