Ureaelállítás refers to the process of urea production. Urea is a nitrogen-rich organic compound with the chemical formula CO(NH₂)₂. It is primarily used as a nitrogen-release fertilizer in agriculture due to its high nitrogen content, which is essential for plant growth. The industrial synthesis of urea is a well-established process, most commonly achieved through the Bosch-Meiser urea process.

This process involves two main steps. First, carbon dioxide (CO₂) and ammonia (NH₃) are reacted under high pressure and temperature to form ammonium carbamate (NH₂COONH₄). This reaction can be represented as: 2 NH₃ + CO₂ ⇌ NH₂COONH₄. The second step involves the dehydration of ammonium carbamate to produce urea and water: NH₂COONH₄ ⇌ CO(NH₂)₂ + H₂O. Both reactions are reversible, and the overall process is optimized for high conversion rates and efficient product recovery.

The raw materials, ammonia and carbon dioxide, are typically byproducts of other industrial processes, such as natural gas reforming for ammonia production and steam reforming of hydrocarbons or synthesis gas production for carbon dioxide. The urea produced is usually in the form of prills or granules, which are easier to handle, store, and apply as fertilizer. Beyond agriculture, urea also finds applications in the production of urea-formaldehyde resins, melamine, and as a de-icing agent.
