Urbanità is an Italian noun meaning the quality of being urban or urbane, and more broadly the cultural and social dimensions of city life. The term derives from Latin urbanitas, from urbanus meaning “of the city.” In its everyday usage, urbanità can refer to civility, courtesy, and refined manners as well as to the liveliness and sophistication associated with urban environments.

In urban studies and sociology, urbanità describes the human and social aspects of urban life: how streets, public spaces, and buildings foster social interaction, accessibility, and a sense of belonging. It encompasses the design of spaces that encourage pedestrian activity, safety, and inclusive participation across diverse populations.

Historically, urbanità also carried a more refined connotation related to aristocratic or mercantile culture: the cultivated manners, cosmopolitan outlook, and etiquette expected of city dwellers, often contrasted with rural rusticity.

In contemporary discourse, the term is used to discuss livability and the aesthetic and moral dimensions of the city, including how urban design, governance, and cultural life contribute to a sense of community and well-being.
