Uraniumrich is a term used to describe rocks, minerals, or ore deposits that contain higher uranium concentrations than typical continental crust. In geology and mining, identifying uranium-rich materials helps assess their potential for uranium extraction and use in the nuclear fuel cycle.

Concentrations are expressed as uranium content by weight or as uranium oxide (U3O8). The crust contains uranium at low parts-per-million levels; uranium-rich materials contain tens to thousands of parts per million U or, when expressed as U3O8, fractions of a percent or more. Ore grades are highly variable, with higher-grade zones reaching a percent-level content in U3O8 in some deposits. The term is often used interchangeably with uraniferous to describe materials with elevated uranium content.

Common uranium-bearing minerals include uraninite (UO2), pitchblende (an older name for uraninite-rich ore), coffinite, autunite, torbernite, and carnotite. Uranium often occurs with vanadium, rare earth elements, or phosphates in specific deposit types.

Uranium-rich deposits form in a variety of geological settings, including sandstone-hosted roll-front deposits, volcanic and magmatic systems, and hydrothermal veins. Notable examples have been mined for U content in North America, Africa, and Kazakhstan, among others.

Extraction involves open-pit or underground mining, milling to produce yellowcake (U3O8), and subsequent conversion and enrichment for reactor fuel. Because uranium is radioactive, handling and disposal of ores, tailings, and processing effluents are subject to strict environmental and safety regulations.
