uprchlík
Uprchlík is the Czech word for refugee. A refugee is a person who has fled their country of origin due to a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion. International law, specifically the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol, defines who qualifies as a refugee and outlines the rights and protections they are entitled to. These protections include not being returned to a country where their life or freedom would be threatened, known as non-refoulement.
