Unitarischen is a term primarily associated with Unitarian Universalism, a liberal religious tradition that is largely rooted in Christianity but has evolved to embrace a wide range of beliefs and practices. Unitarianism historically emphasized the belief in the singular, indivisible nature of God, contrasting with the Christian doctrine of the Trinity. This focus on monotheism was a key distinguishing feature of early Unitarian movements.

Over time, Unitarian thought expanded to include a broad spectrum of theological viewpoints, including those who were non-Christian or even atheistic. The merger of the American Unitarian Association and the Universalist Church of America in 1961 created Unitarian Universalism, a faith that officially has no creed.
