Tüsszentéskor is a Hungarian term that translates to "during a sneeze" or "when sneezing." It refers to the involuntary expulsion of air from the lungs through the nose and mouth. This reflex is typically triggered by irritants in the nasal passages, such as dust, pollen, or viruses.

The act of sneezing is a complex physiological process. When an irritant is detected, nerve signals are sent to the brain, which then initiates a sequence of muscle contractions. This includes closing the glottis (the opening between the vocal cords), building up pressure in the lungs, and then suddenly expelling the air. This forceful expulsion helps to clear the nasal passages of the offending substance.

There are various reasons why a person might sneeze. Allergies are a common cause, leading to a hypersensitive reaction to airborne allergens. Infections, such as the common cold or flu, can also irritate the nasal lining and trigger sneezing. Other triggers include bright light (photic sneeze reflex), sudden changes in temperature, or even strong emotions.

While sneezing is a natural bodily function, it is also a way for pathogens to spread.
