Täppväetust, also known as spot fertilization or placement fertilization, is an agricultural practice where fertilizer is applied in a concentrated band or spot close to the seed or plant at the time of planting or shortly thereafter. This method aims to deliver nutrients directly to the root zone of young plants, ensuring efficient uptake and minimizing losses to the environment.

The principle behind täppväetust is to place the fertilizer where the developing roots can access it most readily. This is particularly beneficial for nutrients that are immobile in the soil or are needed in large quantities during the early growth stages, such as phosphorus. By concentrating the fertilizer, a higher concentration of nutrients is available in the immediate vicinity of the plant compared to broadcast application, where nutrients are spread thinly over a larger area.

Täppväetust can be implemented using various methods, including specialized planter attachments that deposit fertilizer alongside or below the seed, or through in-season applications using side-dressing equipment. The success of this technique depends on factors such as soil type, crop requirements, fertilizer type, and application depth and distance from the seed.
