A tájék is a Hungarian term that broadly translates to "region," "area," or "landscape." It does not refer to a specific administrative division but rather a geographical or functional entity that is recognized by its characteristic features. These features can be natural, such as geological formations, climate patterns, or vegetation, or they can be human-influenced, like agricultural practices, settlement types, or economic activities.

The concept of tájék is often used in geographical and ecological studies to define areas with similar properties. For instance, one might speak of a hilly tájék, a sandy tájék, or a tájék known for its wine production. It can also be used in cultural contexts to describe areas with shared traditions or historical significance. Unlike a county (megye) or a district (járás), a tájék does not have defined borders and can overlap with or be part of larger or smaller administrative units. Its definition relies on a consensus of shared characteristics that distinguish it from surrounding areas. The term emphasizes a holistic view of a particular geographical space, encompassing its natural and human elements.
