Tykanie is a Polish noun meaning the act or sound of ticking, especially the regular sound produced by clocks and other mechanical timekeeping devices. The term is used both in a literal sense to describe the audible rhythm of a clock and in a figurative sense to refer to the passage of time.

In traditional mechanical clocks, ticking is produced by the escapement mechanism, which releases a gear at regular intervals, creating a brief impulse and a corresponding sound.
