tvrtletí

Čtvrtletí, also written tvrtletí when diacritics are omitted, is a period of three consecutive months within a year. The term is used in calendar, financial, and administrative contexts to divide time into four equal parts. It derives from čtvrt, meaning a quarter, with the -letí suffix forming a time-period noun.

In the standard calendar year, čtvrtletí correspond to four quarters: Q1 from January to March (leden–březen), Q2 from April to June (duben–červen), Q3 from July to September (červenec–září), and Q4 from October to December (říjen–prosinec). In business and government, čtvrtletí is often used for reporting periods; however, a company’s fiscal year may start in a different month, which can shift the exact dates of its čtvrtletí (for example, a fiscal year starting in April would have Q1 as April–June).

The term is widely used in finance and administration. Čtvrtletní zprávy and čtvrtletní výsledky denote quarterly reports and results covering a single čtvrtletí. In education, some school systems also describe the year as being divided into four marking periods, referred to as čtvrtletí, though the structure varies by institution.
