tuliperäisyys
Tuliperäisyys, also known as tulip mania, was a speculative bubble in the Dutch Republic in the early 17th century, centered around the tulip flower. The phenomenon began in 1634 when a single tulip bulb sold for 6 guilders. By 1637, prices had skyrocketed to over 5,000 guilders for a single bulb, and the craze spread across Europe. Tulip bulbs were traded like stocks, with investors buying and selling them based on speculation rather than their actual value. The bubble burst in 1637, leading to widespread financial ruin and social unrest. The tulip mania is often cited as an early example of a speculative bubble and a precursor to the dot-com bubble in the late 20th century. The event has since become a cautionary tale about the dangers of unregulated markets and the perils of excessive speculation.
