They are a type of aggregate accessory fruit, meaning the fleshy part is derived from the receptacle of the flower rather than the ovary. The term "truskawka" itself is the Polish word for strawberry. These fruits are characterized by their bright red color when ripe, their sweet and slightly tart flavor, and their distinctive aroma. The tiny, seed-like structures on the surface of the fruit are actually achenes, each containing a single seed.
