The tropostratosfääri is a transitional layer in Earth's atmosphere situated between the troposphere and the stratosphere. It is not a distinct atmospheric layer in the same way as the troposphere or stratosphere, but rather a region where the characteristics of these two layers blend. Typically, the tropostratosfääri is considered to extend from the top of the troposphere, known as the tropopause, up to an altitude of approximately 10 to 20 kilometers. Within this zone, atmospheric temperatures begin to increase with altitude, a defining feature of the stratosphere, although this temperature inversion may not be as pronounced as in the true stratosphere.

The tropostratosfääri plays a role in weather phenomena, as it can influence the vertical movement of air masses and the development of clouds that might penetrate from the troposphere. However, its direct impact on surface weather is less significant than that of the troposphere. The upper boundary of the tropostratosfääri, where the temperature inversion becomes more established and marks the beginning of the stratosphere proper, is characterized by a more stable atmospheric environment. This region is crucial for understanding atmospheric dynamics and the transition of energy and moisture between the lower and middle layers of the atmosphere.
