Tritão is a celestial body within the Solar System. It is the largest of Neptune's thirteen known moons and is unique among moons of its size in that it orbits its planet in a retrograde direction, meaning it travels against Neptune's rotation. This unusual orbit has led scientists to believe that Triton may have been a dwarf planet captured from the Kuiper Belt by Neptune's gravity eons ago.

The surface of Triton is incredibly cold, with temperatures averaging around -235 degrees Celsius (-391 degrees Fahrenheit). Despite this extreme cold, evidence suggests that Triton is geologically active. Geysers of nitrogen gas and dust have been observed erupting from its surface, indicating internal heat and possibly subsurface oceans. Its surface is also marked by a variety of terrains, including icy plains, mountains, and large depressions that may be the result of cryovolcanism.

Triton possesses a thin atmosphere composed primarily of nitrogen with trace amounts of methane. This atmosphere is so tenuous that it is less than one-billionth the pressure of Earth's atmosphere at sea level. The presence of this atmosphere, however thin, allows for weather phenomena like winds and seasonal changes. Its color is a pale pink, which is thought to be due to frozen nitrogen and methane mixed with organic compounds. Triton's exploration has primarily been through flybys, most notably by the Voyager 2 spacecraft in 1989, which provided the most detailed images and data available to date.
