transportate

Transportate is an English verb with the meaning to convey, bear, or carry from one place to another. In modern usage it is virtually obsolete and is rarely encountered outside historical or scholarly texts. Contemporary writers typically use transport (as a verb) or transportation (as a noun) instead of transportate.

Etymology: The word derives from Latin transportare “to carry across,” formed from trans- “across” and portare “to carry,” and entered English via Old French transporter. The form transportate reflects early modern spelling variants of this lineage.

Usage: In earlier English, transportate appeared in the sense of physically moving goods, people, or creatures. It appears in some 16th- and 17th-century writings. Because it is archaic, it is seldom suitable for general use; modern equivalents such as “transport,” “to transport,” and “transportation” are preferred in most contexts. If encountered in historical texts, it can convey period-specific language.
