Translációk, often translated as translations, are a fundamental concept in geometry. A translation is a rigid transformation that moves every point of a figure or a space by the same distance in the same direction. Unlike rotations or reflections, a translation does not change the orientation of the object.

Imagine picking up a shape and sliding it across a surface without turning it or flipping it over. That is a translation. Mathematically, a translation can be represented by a vector. This vector indicates both the distance and the direction of the shift. If a point is at position P and it is translated by vector v, its new position P' will be P + v.

In two-dimensional Euclidean space, a translation can be described by adding a constant vector (a, b) to the coordinates of each point (x, y). The new coordinates will be (x + a, y + b). Similarly, in three-dimensional space, a translation can be represented by adding a vector (a, b, c) to the point (x, y, z), resulting in (x + a, y + b, z + c).

Translations preserve the size and shape of geometric figures. This means that the lengths of line segments, the measures of angles, and the areas of figures remain unchanged after a translation. This property makes translations a key component in understanding isometries, which are transformations that preserve distance.
