Transkriptler is the Turkish plural form of transkript, referring to written renditions of spoken or recorded material. In broader usage, transcripts are texts produced from audio or video that reproduce content in written form, either verbatim or in an edited version. Transcripts serve to preserve information, enable analysis, and improve accessibility.

Common types include academic transcripts, which provide an official record of courses taken, credits earned, grades, and degree status; court or legal transcripts, which document proceedings, testimony, and rulings; media and interview transcripts, used by journalists, researchers, and content creators; and medical transcripts, which convert physicians’ dictated notes into standardized medical records. Research transcripts, such as interview transcripts, are frequently analyzed in qualitative studies.

Creation and features vary. Transcripts can be verbatim, capturing every utterance and nonverbal cues, or edited for readability. They may include timestamps, speaker labels, and annotations. Methods range from human transcription to automated transcription using speech-recognition technology, often supplemented by proofreading and quality checks to improve accuracy and alignment with the original recording.

Uses and implications. Official transcripts function as legal or administrative documents in education, law, and healthcare. Transcripts support accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals and enable textual analysis, archiving, and data reuse. Privacy, consent, and copyright concerns may arise when transcribing private conversations or protected material, necessitating appropriate handling and permissions.
