toxicitile
Toxicitile is a portmanteau term used to describe tiles or tiling materials that contain hazardous substances. These substances can pose risks to human health and the environment during installation, use, and disposal. Historically, certain types of tiles, particularly older ones manufactured before stricter regulations were in place, could contain materials like asbestos or lead. Asbestos was commonly used in vinyl floor tiles and its backing for its fire-resistant properties, but its fibers are now known carcinogens. Lead was sometimes present in glazes and pigments used on ceramic tiles.
Modern tile manufacturing has largely phased out the use of such hazardous materials due to health concerns
