toteetaku

Toteetaku is a small town located in the East Sepik Province of Papua New Guinea. It is situated on the border with the East Highland Province, near the Mori River. The town is a rural settlement with a limited population, characterized by traditional village dwellings and subsistence agriculture.

The local economy is predominantly based on small-scale farming, hunting, and gathering. The town's residents cultivate crops such as sweet potatoes, bananas, and taro, while also relying on fishing and hunting to provide protein and other essential food sources. Limited commercial activities in the town are mostly centered around the extraction and sale of timber.

Toteetaku is 남eanly inaccessible by road, with the nearest paved road ending at the town of Defett. The town can be reached by walking or motorbike along a rough dirt road from Defett, or through a combination of riverine and terrestrial travel. The terrain in the surrounding area is generally difficult to traverse due to hilly landscapes, deep river valleys, and frequent rainfall.

Limited medical and educational facilities are available in the town, with Doomeg Village being the nearest center of medical care. Basic amenities such as schools, stores, and churches also exist. Electricity and communication services, however, are not adequately available. Traditional practices and customs continue to play a prominent role in the lives of the town's residents.
