torrenttiedosto

Torrenttiedosto, also known as a torrent file, is a small metadata file used by the BitTorrent peer-to-peer file sharing protocol. It does not contain the actual content being shared, but rather information about that content. This information includes the names and sizes of files, and crucially, the network path information to a tracker server. The tracker server is responsible for coordinating peers who have pieces of the desired file.

When a user opens a torrenttiedosto with a BitTorrent client, the client connects to the tracker. The tracker then provides the client with a list of other peers who are currently sharing pieces of the file. The client then begins to download small chunks of the file from multiple peers simultaneously, and also uploads pieces it has already downloaded to other peers. This distributed nature is what makes BitTorrent efficient for sharing large files.

The torrenttiedosto itself is typically very small in size. Its primary purpose is to act as a pointer to the actual data. Without a BitTorrent client and a connection to peers, a torrenttiedosto is useless. The protocol facilitates efficient distribution of data by leveraging the bandwidth of many users.
