A tilbageløbsventil, often translated as a non-return valve or check valve in English, is a mechanical device designed to allow fluid or gas to flow in only one direction. It automatically prevents backflow or reverse flow, which can be critical in preventing damage to equipment, contamination of a system, or maintaining pressure.

The primary function of a tilbageløbsventil is safety and operational integrity. In plumbing systems, it can prevent sewage from backing up into a building during heavy rain or flooding. In industrial processes, it is used to protect pumps from damage caused by sudden pressure drops or back-surges.
