Tiibraketid is a type of dominant, species-rich ecosystem found in boreal peatlands. The name "tiibraketid" literally translates to "boreonet" in Finnish, reflecting the unique characteristics of this habitat type.

Tiibraketid ecosystems are characterized by the presence of a dense, carpet-like layer of peat mosses and lichens, typically more than 20 cm thick. This understory, composed primarily of species such as Polytrichum commune, Dicranum fuscescens, and Cladonia rangiferina, provides food and shelter for diverse plant and animal communities.

Despite their poverty in terms of physical resources, tiibraketid ecosystems support a rich array of vascular plant species. These include such plants as cotton grass (Eriophorum angustifolium), cloudberry (Rubus chamaemorus), and bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus).

The understory of tiibraketid also provides habitat for several vertebrate species. These include moose, flying squirrels, and the rare lemming, as well as various invertebrates such as the Siberian longhorn beetle.

Conservation status for tiibraketid ecosystems is generally low to moderate, although composed of patches often fragmented and subject to uncontrolled alteration. Changes in precipitation patterns and gradual general climate warming, as well as human activities like deforestation and exploitation for peat and wood products, pose threats to long-term integrity of this habitat.
