Common terbium-containing materials include doped crystalline hosts such as Tb:YAG (terbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet), CaF2:Tb, and various phosphate or borate glasses. A hallmark of Tb3+-doped phosphors is bright green emission near 545 nm, a feature exploited in display backlights, fluorescent screens, and solid-state lighting. Tb-doped hosts are also used in laser materials and scintillators, for example in Tb:YAG and gadolinium gallium aluminum garnet (GAGG:Tb) systems.

Applications of terbium-containing materials span lighting, displays, imaging, and specialized magnets. In magnetics, terbium is sometimes added to strengthen high-temperature performance in Nd-Fe-B systems. Environmental and safety considerations include managing dust and chemical releases of rare-earth compounds and proper recycling of terbium-containing devices.
