Teratoomiga is a term used in biology and medicine to describe a type of tumor. Specifically, it refers to a germ cell tumor that can contain a variety of different tissue types, such as hair, teeth, bone, or skin. These tumors are formed from primordial germ cells, which are the cells that give rise to sperm and eggs. Teratomas can occur in various parts of the body, but they are most commonly found in the ovaries, testes, or sacrococcygeal region (tailbone area).

The development of teratomas is thought to involve errors during embryonic development, where germ cells migrate to unintended locations or fail to differentiate properly. The cells within a teratoma can differentiate into multiple germ layers, including ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm, leading to the diverse range of tissues observed. Diagnosis usually involves imaging techniques like ultrasound or CT scans, followed by biopsy for definitive confirmation and assessment of malignancy. Treatment depends on the type, size, location, and whether the teratoma is benign or malignant, often involving surgical removal.
