A temperatursäkerhetsventil, often shortened to TS-ventil, is a safety device designed to prevent overheating in water heating systems. Its primary function is to open and release hot water if the temperature in the system exceeds a predetermined safe limit. This prevents dangerous pressure build-up and potential explosions or damage to the water heater and surrounding plumbing.

These valves are typically installed on the hot water outlet of a water heater, such as a boiler or storage tank. They are designed to be both temperature and pressure-sensitive, meaning they will open if either the temperature or pressure becomes excessively high. The activation temperature is usually set above the normal operating temperature of the water heater but below the point where damage or hazardous conditions could occur.

When the water temperature reaches the valve's set point, a heat-sensitive element within the valve expands, pushing a spring-loaded plug away from its seat. This opens a pathway for hot water to discharge, usually through a connected drain pipe. As the water is released, cooler water enters the system, and the temperature begins to drop. Once the temperature falls below the set point, the element contracts, and the valve closes, restoring normal operation.
