Telogenvaiheessa refers to the telogen phase, the resting stage of the hair growth cycle. This phase follows the anagen (growth) and catagen (transition) phases. During telogen, the hair follicle becomes dormant, and the hair shaft detaches from the dermal papilla, though it remains in the follicle. The average duration of the telogen phase is approximately three months for scalp hair. At the end of telogen, the old hair is shed, and a new anagen phase begins, with a new hair growing from the same follicle.

The telogen phase accounts for about 5-10% of the hair on a person's scalp at any given time. It is a natural and essential part of the hair cycle, ensuring that hair is continuously renewed. Factors such as stress, hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies, and certain medical conditions can sometimes cause an increased percentage of hair to enter the telogen phase prematurely or prolong its duration, leading to a condition known as telogen effluvium, characterized by diffuse hair thinning. However, in a normal hair cycle, telogenvaiheessa is a temporary and restorative period before new growth commences.
