televisionsignal refers to the electrical signal that conveys video and audio information from a source to a television receiver. It can be analog or digital and may be transmitted over the air, through cable, by satellite, or via IP-based networks that deliver the signal to a display.

In analog television, the signal carries a baseband video signal together with an encoded audio signal, along with synchronization pulses and color information. Luminance and chrominance are used to represent picture details, and standards such as NTSC, PAL, and SECAM defined the frequency bands and subcarriers.

Digital televisionsignal uses compressed video and audio streams organized into transport streams and modulated for transmission. Modern delivery commonly employs OFDM with QAM or PSK depending on the medium. Digital standards include DVB-T/T2, DVB-C, DVB-S/S2; ATSC 1.0 and 3.0; ISDB-T; and DTMB.

On reception, a tuner/demodulator extracts the channel, followed by demultiplexing and decoding to render audio and video on a television or display. Metadata such as program guides and error correction support reliable reception. Digital signals enable HD, 4K, HDR, and multichannel audio.
