Tehtävätestejä, known in English as task-based testing, is a software testing methodology focused on verifying the successful completion of specific user tasks within an application. Instead of testing individual functions or components in isolation, task-based testing simulates real-world user scenarios. The primary goal is to ensure that users can achieve their objectives efficiently and effectively using the software.

This approach begins by identifying critical user tasks. These are the actions a typical user would perform to accomplish a goal, such as purchasing an item, submitting a form, or completing a workflow. Test cases are then designed to replicate these tasks from start to finish. Each test case outlines a sequence of steps, user inputs, and expected outcomes, mirroring a user's journey through the application.

The execution of task-based tests involves a tester acting as a user, following the defined steps and observing whether the application behaves as expected at each stage. Success is measured not by whether individual buttons work, but by whether the entire task can be completed without errors or undue difficulty. This methodology is particularly useful for validating usability, user experience, and the overall functionality of complex systems.
