Tantervért is a small village located in the Szabolcs‑Szatmár‑Bereg county of northeastern Hungary. It falls within the administrative jurisdiction of the Nyíregyháza district and is situated approximately 35 kilometres south of the county seat. The village covers an area of about 4.8 square kilometres and had a population of 220 residents according to the most recent census data from 2022, yielding a population density of roughly 46 inhabitants per square kilometre.

The settlement’s name derives from the Hungarian words “tánc” (dance) and “érv,” meaning “field,” a reference to the open meadows that historically served as communal dance grounds for local festivals. Historical records first mention Tantervért in a land registry dating back to 1562, when it was part of the estate of the Péterfi family. Over the centuries it has remained predominantly agricultural, with wheat, barley, and sunflower as its main crop.

Geographically, Tantervért lies on the flat plains of the Great Hungarian Plain, featuring a temperate continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. The nearby marshland of Styria adds ecological interest, providing habitat for various bird species. The village hosts an annual folk festival in late spring, showcasing traditional music, dance, and culinary specialties of the region.

Tantervért is accessible by local road connections to Nyíregyháza and surrounding villages, and it shares its primary school, community centre, and volunteer fire department with neighboring settlements. Despite its small size, the village maintains a strong sense of community and preserves the cultural heritage of its historical roots.
