Tamílska refers to the Tamil language, a Dravidian language spoken predominantly by the Tamil people of India and Sri Lanka. It is also spoken by Tamil expatriate communities worldwide. Tamil is one of the longest-surviving classical languages in the world, with a literary tradition spanning over two millennia. Its earliest written records date back to the 3rd century BCE.

The language has a rich and extensive body of literature, encompassing poetry, drama, philosophy, and scientific treatises. Tamil script, known as Tamil-script, is an abugida derived from the Brahmi script. It is written from left to right.

Tamil is an official language of India, Sri Lanka, and Singapore, and is also recognized as a minority language in Malaysia. The language has undergone significant evolution over centuries, yet its classical form remains largely intelligible to modern speakers, a testament to its linguistic resilience. Modern Tamil is spoken by an estimated 75 million people.
