A tamborim is a small frame drum, typically played with a stick. It is a popular percussion instrument in Brazilian music, particularly samba. The drumhead is usually made of goatskin or synthetic material, stretched over a wooden or plastic frame. Tamborims are often played in large ensembles, providing a bright, rhythmic accent.

The instrument's origin is somewhat debated, but it is believed to have evolved from earlier forms of hand drums and percussion instruments brought to Brazil by enslaved Africans. Its distinctive sound is achieved by striking the drumhead with a stick, often a thin piece of wood or bamboo, while simultaneously muting or damping the head with the fingers of the other hand. This technique allows for a wide range of percussive effects and rhythmic variations.

Tamborims come in various sizes, though they are generally small enough to be held comfortably in one hand. They are a staple in samba schools and batucadas (samba percussion ensembles), where their sharp, cutting sound contributes significantly to the overall texture and energy of the music.
