talaporfin
Talaporfin is a photosensitizing agent used in photodynamic therapy (PDT). It belongs to the class of texaphyrin compounds. Talaporfin is administered intravenously and accumulates preferentially in tumor tissues. When activated by light of a specific wavelength, typically around 665 nm, talaporfin produces reactive oxygen species, such as singlet oxygen. These reactive oxygen species are cytotoxic and lead to the destruction of cancer cells and the disruption of tumor vasculature.
The development and application of talaporfin have focused on its use in treating various types of cancer.
