Talajerosódást is a Hungarian term referring to soil erosion. It describes the process by which the fertile topsoil is removed from the land by natural forces like wind and water, or due to human activities. This degradation of soil is a significant environmental concern, impacting agricultural productivity and ecosystem health.

The primary agents of talajerosódást are rainfall and wind. Intense rainfall can dislodge soil particles, especially on sloped terrain, leading to the formation of gullies and surface runoff that carries away topsoil. Wind erosion is more prevalent in dry, arid, or semi-arid regions where vegetation cover is sparse. Particles are lifted and transported by wind, often causing damage to crops and infrastructure.

Human activities can greatly exacerbate talajerosódást. Deforestation removes the protective canopy and root systems that anchor the soil. Unsustainable agricultural practices, such as plowing on steep slopes, monoculture farming, and overgrazing, also leave the soil exposed and vulnerable. Urbanization and construction can disturb large areas of land, leading to increased erosion during development and afterward if not properly managed.
