Takaisinkytkentäohjaus, known in English as feedback control, is a fundamental concept in control engineering. It involves a system that uses the output of a process to adjust its input in order to maintain a desired output. This is achieved by measuring the system's actual output, comparing it to the desired setpoint, and then using the difference, or error signal, to modify the input.

The core components of a feedback control system include a sensor to measure the output, a controller that processes the error signal and determines the appropriate action, and an actuator that implements the controller's command by affecting the process input. This closed-loop nature distinguishes it from open-loop control, where the input is not adjusted based on the output.

Feedback control is widely used across various fields. In everyday life, it's present in thermostats that regulate room temperature, cruise control systems in vehicles that maintain speed, and even in biological systems like the human body's regulation of blood sugar. In industrial applications, it's crucial for maintaining precise control over manufacturing processes, chemical reactions, and robotics.

The primary advantage of feedback control is its ability to compensate for disturbances and uncertainties within the system. By continuously monitoring and adjusting, it can counteract external influences or internal variations that might otherwise cause the output to deviate from the desired setpoint. This leads to improved stability, accuracy, and performance of the controlled system. However, improperly designed feedback loops can also lead to instability or oscillations.
