Tömörüléseket, often translated as consolidations, are a common finding in medical imaging, particularly in chest X-rays and CT scans. They represent areas within the lung where the normal air-filled spaces, known as alveoli, have become filled with fluid, pus, blood, or other substances. This replacement of air by denser material causes the affected lung tissue to appear opaque or "consolidated" on imaging.

The most frequent cause of tömörüléseket is pneumonia, an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs. When pneumonia occurs, the alveoli fill with pus and mucus, leading to the characteristic consolidation. Other conditions can also result in tömörüléseket. These include pulmonary edema, a buildup of fluid in the lungs often associated with heart failure, and pulmonary hemorrhage, bleeding into the lung tissue. Aspiration, where foreign material like food or stomach contents are inhaled into the lungs, can also cause inflammation and consolidation.

On a chest X-ray, tömörüléseket typically appear as hazy or dense white patches, obscuring the underlying lung structures. The size and location of the consolidation can vary depending on the underlying cause. CT scans provide more detailed imaging and can better delineate the extent and characteristics of the tömörüléseket, aiding in diagnosis. Treatment for tömörüléseket depends entirely on the underlying cause. For pneumonia, antibiotics are usually prescribed. For other causes, specific medical interventions are employed to address the fluid buildup, bleeding, or inflammation.
