Süsinikvesinik is the Estonian term for hydrocarbon. Hydrocarbons are organic compounds consisting entirely of hydrogen and carbon atoms. They are the primary components of petroleum and natural gas, making them fundamental to the global energy supply. The arrangement of carbon and hydrogen atoms in hydrocarbons can vary widely, leading to a vast array of different molecules with diverse properties.

The simplest hydrocarbon is methane (CH4), which is the main component of natural gas. Other common hydrocarbons include ethane (C2H6), propane (C3H8), and butane (C4H10). These are known as alkanes and are characterized by single bonds between carbon atoms. Cyclic hydrocarbons, where carbon atoms form rings, also exist.
